Please remember the annual meeting scheduled for April 13th at 7:00 p.m. at the Town Hall. Everyone is encouraged to come and discuss town issues. Some of the items to be discussed, but not limited to, are purchasing/financing a new wheel loader, the five acre ordinance, and road work for 2010.

The Town of Wheaton has a contract with the Visit Eau Claire. They provide information about the Town of Wheaton on their website and promote tourism for the township. They are looking for information for a community calendar, business listing, points of interest, events and sites for visiting the area. Also, if you have information such as the history of the township, events that are taking place, clubs and organizations in the township they would like to hear it. Contact www.visiteauclaire.com or one of your board members.

Don’t forget to check out the Town of Wheaton’s web site www.townofwheaton.com. There is a lot of information out there for you.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED:
Do you like adventure? Would you like to serve your community? Consider joining the Town of Wheaton volunteer fire department. The firemen that serve our township could use your help! Contact the Fire District office at 715-723-5488 or any firefighter for more information or attend one of their monthly meetings. They meet on the second Monday of the month at 8:00 p.m. at the fire station.

FIRE NUMBERS/PERMITS:
Please make sure that your fire number is visible from both directions. Cut brush and tall grass away from the fire number.

The Town of Wheaton does not issue fire permits, but you are asked to call 723-5488 to let the fire department know that you are having a controlled fire. It is unlawful to burn tires, plastic, treated or painted wood or other toxic materials.

The town road crew wants to remind you that your recycling & garbage bins need to be placed at least eight feet off the road-way. By not placing garbage receptacle off the roadway you are causing a hazard for other motorists.

THE WHEATON BALL PROGRAM:
The Wheaton Ball Program welcomes children ages four and older to participate in their ball program. Children must be at least four years old as of April 30th. Coaches will soon notify Wheaton ball players as to teams, practices and games. Games will start on or about May 3rd with starting time either at 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. If you do not have kids playing you are always welcomed to come down to the Wheaton Park to watch a game and enjoy a hotdog.

BUILDING PERMITS:
The Town of Wheaton is a zoned township which means that a building permit is required for any structures, such as new homes, additions to homes, barns, sheds, silos, grain bins, garages, decks, metal/canvas covered canopies, portable buildings, and move on buildings such as garages & sheds. As misinformation is often given out, farmers are not exempt from needing a building permit. There are also setback requirements not only from your property boundary lines, but also from other buildings, septic systems, & wells. Do not start any construction projects without the proper permits as after the fact fees will also be charged. If you have ANY questions or doubts, call the Chippewa County Zoning Office at 715-726-7940.

DRIVEWAY PERMITS: Driveway permits for new home construction can be obtained from Chippewa County Zoning. Field driveway permits can be obtained from the Town of Wheaton at no cost to you. Please contact one of the town board members for a permit and a copy of the ordinance specifying culverts and locations.

ROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY:
When landscaping your lawn or planting trees be sure to stay at least 33 feet back from the centerline of the road. Please keep in mind that as the trees grow, the branches spread out and can become a hazard. Tree branches reaching within the right-of-way will need to be cut. Often times this costs the township a considerable amount of money for removal.

We always welcome new businesses in the Town of Wheaton. If you are planning on starting a home-based business adventure, please contact the Planning Commission, the Town Board, & Chippewa County Zoning office to get the correct permits and variances that you need.
