TOWN BOARD MEETINGS – The Wheaton town board holds its regular monthly meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm, unless otherwise posted. Notices are posted at the Wheaton fire station, town hall and various businesses in the Town of Wheaton.
TOWN WEBSITE-
The town website address is: www.townofwheaton.com. You are able to view the agenda of monthly meetings, monthly meeting minutes, phone numbers and addresses for Town Board Members, calendar of events, Town ordinances, notices of coming events, forms & permits, plus other links for you to check out. Please take time to look at the website. Ruth Fagerland is the person to contact if you have information that should be included on the web page. If you have knowledge of our Towns past history as to how Wheaton came to be, important facts regarding past history, etc, Ruth would be happy to include this on the website. Ruth’s e-mail address is: RFagerland7373@charter.net
A WORD FROM YOUR TOWN CHAIRMAN –
The elections for Town officials will be in April of 2011. If you are interested in serving on the town board, be sure to put your papers in by January 3, 2011. There is more information regarding this in another section of this newsletter. New board members are always welcomed and I urge you that if you have been thinking about running for town board to take out your papers to be on the ballot.
The Town of Wheaton is required by the State of Wisconsin to do a revaluation of property in 2011. Many of you have already been visited by the assessor, Randy Prochnow. If you have not, you soon will be. Please be cooperative with him. Please keep in mind that this does NOT mean that your town taxes will be going up.
There has been a lot of work being done at the Wheaton Town Park. New dugouts are being installed and a new concession building is under construction. There have been countless hours of volunteer work on the improvements for the park. A BIG thank you to all who have volunteered there time and resources for these projects.
We have had some problems in the Town of Wheaton where property owners are putting lawn décor, trees, bushes, etc. too close to the road. Please keep in mind that there is a 33 foot right-of-way from the center of the road. This area needs to stay clear of any objects. The town can be liable if someone is injured because of objects in the way. If the town is aware of any such happenings, you will be called and asked to remove them. If it is not removed, the town will need to take legal action.

Contact any firefighter for more information or attend one of their monthly meetings. They meet on the second Monday of the month at 8:00 p.m. at the fire station.
FIRE NUMBERS/FIRE PERMITS –
Please make sure that your fire number is visible from both directions. Cut brush and tall grass away from the fire number. Do not pile snow where it may block the visibility of the fire number. The Town of Wheaton does not issue fire permits, but you are asked to call 715-723-5488 to let the fire department know that you are having a controlled fire. If your fire number needs to be replaced you can call Russ Bauer at
715-726-7930.
TOWN ROADS-
The Chippewa County Highway Department & the Town of Wheaton would again like to remind everyone that it is not only dangerous but unlawful to plow or push snow onto or across a public highway or town road. Section 346.94(5), Wisconsin statutes prohibits this action.
Snow left in ridges or piles on the highway or road, creates a hazard for vehicles. Snow piled on the shoulders may also create problems for equipment during normal plowing operations and increases the possibility of snow drifting across the highway or road in these areas. We encourage your cooperation for the safety of all who travel the roads and highways in the Town of Wheaton and Chippewa County.
Note: The Town of Wheaton is not in the driveway snow plowing business! Please contact a private snow removal business for these services.
If you are hauling large loads that cause damages to the town road, you are liable for those damages. Road bans are put on in the spring to prevent some of these damages. During these times when road bans are in affect, builders, trucking firms, famers, etc. are not exempt from road weight bans.
The town road crew wants to remind you that your recycling & garbage bins need to be placed at least eight feet off the road-way. By not placing garbage receptacle off the roadway you are causing a hazard for other motorists.
